The Professional Teaching Awards Cymru
One of the recommendations from the OECD review of Welsh education reform was for Welsh Government to celebrate the success of Welsh schools, in particular the efforts and commitment of our teaching profession. Alongside this recommendation, a key priority in Taking Wales Forward is to raise school standards through incentivising, recognising and promoting teaching excellence.

The inaugural Professional Teaching Awards Cymru was launched in December 2016 and the Awards ceremony took place on 7 May 2017 in City Hall, Cardiff.  The Welsh Government Cabinet Secretary for Education, Kirsty Williams, honoured the achievements of outstanding teachers and schools across the country.

This year, the Professional Teaching Awards Cymru have returned. The 2018 Awards were successfully launched on 22 September 2017 at Deighton Primary School in Tredegar by Kirsty Williams, Education Secretary.

There are nine categories this year including Teacher of the Year, Headteacher of the Year, Inspirational use of the Welsh Language and Best Use of Digital Learning so there is plenty of opportunity for your school to get the recognition that they deserve.

The 2018 awards timeline is as follows:
  • 22 September 2017 – Award nominations open
  • 30 November 2017 – Award nominations close
  • April 2018 – Shortlisted finalists announced
  • May 2018 – Awards Ceremony
