Digital event hailed a success
More than 70 people attended a special TeachMeet #TeachBites event at USW City Campus, Newport. Organised by the Education Achievement Service and the University of South Wales, the TeachMeet-style event was led by primary and secondary teachers from the south east Wales region.

EAS Seren project helps 6th form pupils to reach their potential to...
Working in partnership with Oxbridge and Russell group universities the EAS Seren project aims to support and encourage the most talented young people in South East Wales to realise their full potential. Launched last year the project has already supported over 250 young people across the EAS region in raising confidence, streamlining the University applications process and helping young people to choose degree courses in top university places.

Reminder: Induction mentoring arrangements for newly qualified teachers in Wales are changing from September 2016. We informed regional consortia and local authorities in June 2015 that from September 2016, the role of deploying external mentors to support newly qualified teachers through their induction would no longer be carried out by the Welsh Government.

NPQH briefing sessions will be held week beginning June 5th 2016. As there are changes in this round of NPQH it is advisable that all prospective candidates attend one of the briefing sessions together with their Headteacher. Welsh Government publishes school Categorisation results
New information on the performance of Primary and Secondary schools in Wales has been published today. The Welsh Government has released the results of its National School Categorisation system which sees schools being put into one of four colour coded support categories on an annual basis in order to demonstrate the level of support it needs.

National Foundation for Educational Research (NFER) have produced 8 case studies on experiences of school partnerships in the programme, celebrating what worked well. The programme enabled strong performing primary and secondary schools to match with a school that had already begun its improvement journey and help deliver improvements in standards and performance. The pathfinder was extended to Tranche 2 and Special Schools/ALN strand.

The purpose of the national categorisation system is to ensure that the right support is provided to schools that need the most help and guidance. The system is also designed to enable schools to learn from each other and to share effective practice.
