Peter Jenkins

Peter Jenkins has recently joined the EAS following a successful teaching career.  He has worked at a number of secondary schools in various authorities across South Wales.  The schools were vastly different in size and nature and ranged from a 11-16 faith based school of 450 students to a 11 -18 school of over 2000 students with 13 teachers in the Mathematics department, of which he was head.
He has been on Senior Leadership teams since 1987 with the last fifteen years as a Headteacher. The first nine of these was at Ferndale Community School in the Rhondda Fach a position he only left due to the opportunity to be involved in a new school build in Newport.  It was here he oversaw the closure of Hartridge High School and the evolution into Llanwern High School, a process which resulted in Llanwern High School being described as the ‘most improved in Wales’.   Both headships were in areas of significant social and economic challenge.
His role at the EAS, consists primarily of developing leadership programmes, assisting in ‘Closing the Gap’ and undertaking Challenge Adviser duties for a number of schools.  Peter regards this as an exciting change in career and one he will enthusiastically embrace.
