August 2018:  GCSE results (Provisional on the day results)

Regional Press Release

The EAS would like to congratulate learners on their achievements in this year’s GSCE examinations.  We are delighted that the hard work of staff and learners has paid off.

Wales is currently undergoing a period of change in how performance measures are used within the accountability system. One aspect of this change is the way we report on regional and local outcomes. The EAS is already working closely with schools to track individual pupil performance over time which will mean that school leaders and our local authorities are well positioned to gauge where schools are progressing well or where they may need additional support.

As in previous years there has been effective dialogue with post-16 providers to ensure that learners are provided with appropriate pathways following results.

Lynette Jones, Lead Education Director for South East Wales: “Congratulations to all our learners across the region, particularly so during this period of national change.  The adaptive approach to learner support continues to promote improvement in outcomes, as does the close partnership work between our schools, the EAS and Local Authority support services. Our learners will continue to be well supported by their schools and Coleg Gwent as they continue on their important learning journey.”

Cllr. Gail Giles, Chair of the Joint Executive Group for South East Wales: “Congratulations to all our learners and everyone involved in this set of results, including governing bodies, headteachers, teachers, school based staff, parents and guardians. The efforts that have gone in to these outcomes are not to be underestimated.

Every young person receiving GCSE results across the region is at a pivotal point in their life and I can reassure them that there is extensive advice and support available from their schools or Coleg Gwent to assist them with their next steps. The region also offers a wide range of post-16 learning and apprenticeships opportunities for successful career progression. We wish all pupils every success for the future.”
