Maggie Turford
I taught for 13 years, and then became an adviser for the former Gwent Local Authority (8 years); covering both secondary and primary phases. I was subsequently Assistant Director of Education in the new Monmouthshire Local Authority (6 years), with oversight of all school improvement and special needs functions. During that time I also led inspections in the contracted out arrangements. In 2001 I was appointed to Estyn, where I was Managing HMI for Early Years and Primary Education and then appointed Assistant Director with responsibility for local authorities and youth support services.
I retired from the inspectorate in 2011 and set up as an education consultant in 2012. Following my time at ESIS, I worked for Torfaen as an Adviser until 2013 and subsequently, from 2013 have been a Challenge Adviser for the EAS.
